El-Yes: Put Your Back Into It

Some people think in metaphor. I think in Nineties hip hop references. In the immortal words of Ice Cube “ You can do it put your back into it.”

I only saw Miss El-Yes from behind. Regardless, I just knew that this was a good outfit from any direction.

She has hit all of my work appropriate favorites: Stripes! Color! Pencil Skirt! Ballet Flats! I am seriously having a preptastical design orgasm. I might explode. Grosgrain ribbon and J. Crew catalogs might come flying out of me at any moment.

Quick! Find me a fanny pack. It is the only antidote to style over-stimulation.

Get her winning look in two different price points:

Splurge:

Proenza Schouler Striped Tissue Jersey Tee for $375

J. Crew No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Double Serge Wool in Spicy Gold for $120

Chloe Scalloped Black Ballet Flat for $475

Steal:

T Los Angeles Long Sleeve Striped Tee for $66

Halogen Seamed Pencil Skirt in Green Moss or Yellow Raisin for $68

ModCloth Evening Walk Flat for $29.99

El-Read: Orange You Glad I Didn’t See A Banana?

During my morning commute I saw a very strange tableaux.

A big grey pile of snow had been sprinkled with neon orange Cheetos. It was a magical cheesy dusting. Doppler radar couldn’t have predicted this cheddar precipitation. It was so ugly and yet so evocative of the carroty trends coming our way for Spring 2011.

According to the recent WSJ article “Orange Crush,” the color of the moment is “zesty” and “flamboyant.” “In the Netherlands, orange is the official color of royalty. In India, the flag's saffron band represents courage, and the hue is holy in Hinduism. Orange is also having a moment in the fashion zeitgeist.”

The Cheetos were burned in my brain and just wouldn’t disappear (much like the neon dusting when it gets on your hands). I reinterpreted this image in a fabric… I think it looks a little nicer than a big pile of slush.

Embrace this citrus hue with a spectrum of delicious treats from Tory Burch!

El-Buy: European Union

She spots shoelaces by the Spanish seashore.

Try saying that ten times fast (especially after a pitcher of poolside sangria). ¡Ay, caramba!

La Familia El-No Chicago just got back from a relaxing holiday in Spain. Overwhelmed by tapas and Custo Barcelona, I was snapping photos right and left.

While I have a pile of pictures to go through, I did want to clue you in on this Iberian craze. Sassy shoelaces were all the rage and a perfect way to make a statement with your kicks. Green, purple, and blue- even my husband jumped on board.

Bring a touch of España to your shoes this winter. At only $2 a pop, this look might be cheaper than the neon lipstick that is popping up all over Spring runways. We Love Colors has an amazing selection of laces that will keep you multi-hued all winter.
