El-No: Costco Calamity

Those pants look uncomfortable.

You know what else was uncomfortable? My eyes.

I saw waaaaaay too much.

My general rule of thumb is that slacks shouldn't be so tight that they offer a genetics lesson to unsuspecting pedestrians.

The really troubling part was that this little lady works at Costco- the land of the return policy. You can return everything there... including pants that have been worn. Ahem.

Might I suggest the lovely bootcut Seven jeans that I saw over near the table of baby pajamas? Take a right at the chocolate covered pretzel samples and go straight on 'til you hit the mother lode. Can't pry yourself out of these painted-on pants? I saw bolt cutters in an aisle somewhere north of the electronics.

El-Yes: WWJD?

I'd like to blame my blogging absence on a certain tiny nine month old girl.

But if JSimp has enough time to be a Weight Watchers spokesperson, take care of a baby, and get pregnant again, I can certainly update my blog. Once I heard the news of her impending arrival, I thought WWJD? (Jessica not Jesus).

Loading up on spuds for Thanksgiving, I spotted Miss El-Yes at the vegetable market. Girlfriend had it going on. I abandoned my grocery cart and high tailed it over to the canned goods to snap a picture. I love her whole look and think this is the perfect mommy-about-town ensemble.

I want it... All of it.

Sweater: Michael Kors Ombre Sweater for $417

Coat: Stella McCartnery Striped Coat for $519.72

Necklace: J. Crew Bubble Necklace for $105

Mom Friendly Necklace Option: Chewbeads Jane Necklace for $29.50

Jeans: J Brand 811 Dark Mid Rise Jean for $196

Boots: Frye Phillip Studded Harness Boot for $288

El-Yes: It's A Small World After all

Fate made me go into the Starbucks on Chicago and Franklin (and the need for a holiday cup filled with gingerbread latte).

I love this Starbucks because it is always filled with fashionable gallery workers and Merchandise Mart employees. I ease dropped on a discussion about SOFA (apparently disappointing) and Carl (as in Carl Hammer). While I strained my ear for any design gossip, I noticed Miss El-Yes waiting for her coffee. What a dress!

Later that evening, I went to the Junior League of Chicago Gazebo holiday market. I was blown away to discover Miss El-Yes's dress hanging on a sales rack at the Archer Townsend booth. What a small world!

Archer Townsend is a new contemporary women's line that has fantastic pieces (like this dress). I love this simple dress paired with chunky grey boots. A perfect look as we head into the chill of Fall and Winter.

El-No: PSA- Pajamas Are For Sleeping

I racking my fashion historian brain. When did it become acceptable to wear pajamas out in public?  I'm not being facetious. I'm actually curious how this happened.

After careful consideration, I'm blaming the 2000s. Our casual lifestyles got a little too casual.

All things must come to an end. Pajamas in public, you have run your course. In addition to looking very sloppy, I see these flannel night clothes as a walking germ factory. Hello city bus seat! Why don't I rub you all over my bed sheets? Someone call the CDC. Maybe they can talk some sense in to people?

Girlfriend, get some slacks. Is saving the minute it takes to put on new pants really worth getting MRSA?

Didn't think so.

El-Read: Style Doesn't Have An Age Limit

Christmas Shopping = Over

The blog Advanced Style captures photographs and videos of stylish and sassy seniors. It is absolutely inspiring.

Ari Seth Cohen, the blogger, has just put out a book by the same name. I know a certain Indianapolis senior who will be receiving this under the Christmas tree.

My Grandmother collects hats, loves sequins, and has about a hundred pairs of eye glasses. When my grandfather passed away, all of the female funeral attendees wore hats as a nod to my grandmother. She has even been featured in a few local publications for her fabulous "advanced style." I think this is just the book for her!

El-No: Double Trouble

Whole Foods is filled with all kinds of interesting people watching. I'm pretty sure that I found a mommy posing as a hip hop mogul over by the organic apples.

Miss El-No was clearly a little heavy handed with the old bedazzler because her silver sequins nearly blinded me. I stepped around to get a better view and discovered the silver moon boot high tops. But then I looked up.

Behind moon boot mom was something far worse. (Hint- look to the right)

Shocked! Awed! Amazed!

A pregnant woman wearing a skin tight striped dress, knee highs, and orange wedge high tops. Bemused smiles (in the direction of the mom to be) were being shared all around the produce section.

It was double momma drama!

These ladies need a fashionable mom makeover because they were both trying waaaaay too hard to be hip.

Mommy #1 can loose the sequins and silver high tops and replace them with this silvery grey Bobi Cowl Neck Pullover ($103) and Steve Madden Favoryte shoes in silver ($69.95). So much more chic!

Mommy #2 and her bump could be a little less bedonka donk. I love this More of Me Emerson Wrap Dress ($190) and these Splendid Culver Wedge Boots ($148 from take 20% off with the code WEAREFAMILY at checkout) and a pair of black tights. So lovely for Fall!

El-No: The Frost Is On The Punkin

When the frost is on the punkin and the fodder's in the shock

And you hear the kyouk and gobble of the stuttin turkey-cock

Please excuse the James Whitcomb Riley reference. No doubt that the Hoosier Poet and his strutting turkey would also dislike these slacks.

I mean really... Flesh tone pants? Sigh. Does nobody listen?

Love the colored pants trend, hate when they match your skin tone. This just isn't flattering.

Miss El-No should swap out the skin tone skinnies for some of these cool options:

J.Crew Toothpick Ankle Cord for $98

Banana Republic Skinny Cord for $79.50

Gap 1969 Skinny Jean for $69.95

El-Yes: Sweater Weather

Grab your pumpkin spice latte... it's sweater weather!

Miss El-Yes is putting a feminine spin on a menswear inspired cardigan and button down shirt. Using sleek fabric and a trim fit, she really rocks the look.

Crush it this Fall with these perfect pieces:

Kate Spade Boucle Trim Cardigan (on sale!) for $178 in a beautiful green and blue combination

Brooks Brothers Fitted Non-iron Bold Stripe Dress Shirt for 2 for $159- my absolute FAVORITE button down shirts!

J Brand Mid-Rise Slim Leg Jean in Ignite for $191

Born Riley Flat in Navy Patent for $89.95- that's right... NAVY! I found a cute navy shoe!

* Thanks for the photo MS. Good sighting!

El-No: Real Pants, Maybe?

My baby hates Carly Rae Jepsen.

Hate is a strong word. I guess passionately dislikes is a more truthful phrase.

I was changing the station as Miss El-No crossed Chicago Ave. The red flannel pajama pants caught my attention as breathed a sigh of relief that I had narrowly missed a "Call Me Maybe" induced shower of baby tears.

Pajamas in public?

Sigh. I don't get it. Is it so hard to put on actual pants?

It's hard to look right

at you baby

Your pajama pants

Just drive me cray cray

How about these Not Your Daughter's Jeans Sheri stretch velveteen pants? They are cozy, flattering, and seasonally appropriate. Scoop them up for only $130 at Nordstrom.

El-Yes: Amazingly Autumnal

I went to Design Harvest on Sunday. I dipped in and out tents and design stores looking for interior inspiration. I must be really out of the loop because I had no idea that Post 27 and The Painted Lady switched places!

Somewhere between falling in love with a Nest pumpkin chai candle and a trip to see the farm animals at Christy Webber, I spotted Miss El-Yes. She was coming out of store with vintage kitchen implements and I was cooing at babies. I struggled to get my phone out quickly but only managed to snap a picture as she strolled away.

She looks fabulously Fall in her boots, slim pants, and a leather peplum jacket. I think that I need this ensemble (as well as that Nest candle that I was eyeing).

Haider Ackerman Leather Peplum Jacket for $4,540

J.Crew Tissue Turtleneck Tee for $39.50

Gap Legging Jean for $34.95

Tory Burch Jess Flat Riding Boot for $525

El-No: It's A Wonderful Life

"Teacher says: Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings."

What has to ring for this to happen?

The silver lining: At least this isn't an angel wing tattoo.

Sigh. Girlfriend needs her wings clipped. Let's switch out the sweatshirt for this Sattva Pullover from Lululemon ($108). Love! Please note the wingless back detailing!

El-No: Mental R and R at the Market

You know you are a mommy when a trip to the grocery store (alone!) seems like a vacation.

I spent my twenty minute vacation wondering through the market looking for additions for our dinner. While lingering in the Cabernet aisle, I happened to glance over into the beer section. Miss El-No was just drifting through the bottles trying to decide which six pack to buy.

Fanny pack! Polka dot bike shorts! Crazy tight skirt!

I instantly got excited.

I abandoned the wine section and followed Miss El-No through the store in hopes of landing a little picture and some insight into this ensemble.

I gather that she is going for an artistic vibe that is bicycle friendly. I think she can do better. I'd replace the fanny with this colorful BDG Crossbody Buckle Bag in mint for $39. It would work perfectly with this fabulous Sparkle & Fade knit cross-back jumper $59. Both would be excellent additions to a Fall wardrobe.

El-No: Lilac Lace and Getaway Shoes

This reader submitted photo came with an addendum: Miss El-No has heliotrope hair! I have to give her props for really completing her monochromatic look. Violet colored tresses are a major commitment!

But I digress...

My real issue is the tight purple dress and Toms combo. Why is Miss El-No rocking this dress in broad day light?

My guess: This is a morning after/ walk of shame situation. Perhaps the Toms were hiding in her purse last night as a post-hookup insurance policy. Sort of like the shoe version of the Oral B Brush Ups

Miss El-No should make some room in her pocketbook for this Palm Breeze-ly tunic in black ($34.99 from Modcloth). She could layer this black top over the tight dress as cameo for her walk of shame home. Always be prepared. It's really just common sense.

El-Yes: Mais Oui!

I am going to a fabulous french fete on Friday!

I'll be heading to the Junior League of Chicago's Summer Soiree: Fete de Paris at the Chicago History Museum. But the invitation says: Parisian Chic. Um... quoi?

Take a cue from the French with a simple cocktail dress. Dress it up with some lovely and simple accesories and oh la la!

El-No: Clean Up on Aisle 4

You know all of those well dressed and fashionable people in the TJ Maxx ads? Well, this post isn't about them.

I followed this Maxxinista into the downtown store. As you can see, she was wearing a crop top, horrible denim shorts (these are equal parts mom jean and slutty teen), and wedges. She stuck out in the sea of discounted fashions. The overhead lighting didn't do her any favors either.

Miss Maxxinista was cruising for "Casual Tops." I am hoping that she also checks out the "Shorts that don't make you look like a middle aged streetwalker" and "Age appropriate shoes you can walk in" sections of the store.

Fingers crossed that she digs up a better look. I think this DVF New Hanky asymmetrical hem top for $117.90 top would be a safer choice. (And by safer, I mean in a fire, her stomach wouldn't get burned). I'd also suggest these Haute Hippie Print Drawstring Silk shorts for $145.90  and Sofft Ibiza Sandal for $69.90 shoes. Ahhhh, she looks her age and was still shopping in the sale racks! What a relief.

El-No: Change Is Gonna Come

I'll never be the same.

I'm still reeling from yesterday's game changers: The Honey Boo Boo Child Show and City Target.

Let's start with Miss Honey Boo Boo. If reality tv shows were a high school cafeteria, you'd see me sitting with the girly girls, drama queens, and train wrecks. Dating shows and The Real Housewives are really my wheel house but I do love a good train wreck (a la Hoarders).

Last night, I tried to watch TLC's new show about Honey Boo Boo Child. I lasted five minutes and thought that my brain would explode. I've actually discovered a reality tv show that is too much for me. Just a few minutes of watching had me praying for the future of America and craving cable news.

I will not be watching again. But I will be going back to the glorious City Target!

I am in looooove with our new urban Tar-jay. It is so shiny and clean.

I was exploring yesterday, and discovered Miss El-No near the second floor escalators. She was wearing a low riding mullet skirt and sensible shoes. Yuck. I might have been able to handle the skirt if it weren't for the exposed midriff and podiatry patient kicks.

Miss El-No should stay on the second floor and pick up this Xihileration Juniors 3/4 Sleeve Dress in Blue/ Black for $24.99. These A2 by Aerosoles sandals ($54.99) are comfortable without being hideous- the black version would look great with the dress. Add a pop of color with this yellow belt from Merona ($12.99).

El-Yes: Can You Kandinsky?

This lady has a case of Kandinsky caboose... and I think that it is lovely. I would totally rock these abstract print pants!

Wassily Kandinsky, a Russian abstract artist, believed that art was linked to spirituality. He hoped that his abstraction would provide subjective responses from the viewer. Bravo sir. These slacks did provoke a response.

I feel compelled to purchase these Loudmouth Golf pants ($95). I plan to wear the with a solid tank and some simple heels. Fabulous!

What The El?

I'm stumped.

This ensemble encompasses two of my favorite things: neon and the pink/green combination. But I also feel like she is dancing on the edge of looking like a survivor in a highlighter factory explosion.

El-Buy: Urban Jungle

I must have fallen and hit my head.  I don't remember this, but that is the only logical reason for what I am about to tell you. Ready?

I purchased shorts... And I wore them.

Now, I want more. Obviously motherhood has changed me. Or I have some sort of concussion. Either way, here are some shorts that are on my radar.
